Overview

The Counter Coffee and Lounge, located at 24 Ludgate Hill in the heart of London, offers more than just a typical coffee shop experience. It stands out as a welcoming refuge for both casual visitors and those seeking a quiet space to work or catch up with friends. The hands-on professionalism of the staff, especially barista Oscar, is frequently highlighted by patrons, creating an atmosphere that feels both warm and familiar.

As a coffee shop, The Counter impresses with its quality brews. From expertly crafted ice matcha lattes to classic espresso drinks, the menu caters to a range of tastes without overwhelming the guest. This focus on quality over quantity enhances the overall experience, making it a favored spot for both locals and travelers alike.

What truly sets The Counter apart is its space. The café is thoughtfully designed with comfortable seating areas ideal for working or socializing. With day passes available for those wanting an extended stay, it appeals not only to coffee lovers but also to remote workers and students looking for a quiet, productive environment. The inclusion of Zoom booths acknowledges the evolving needs of modern customers, though their usage remains minimal.

The atmosphere strikes a delicate balance between lively and serene, though some have suggested the music volume could be adjusted to better suit those working. Nevertheless, the staff’s responsiveness is a strong point; concerns such as cigarette smoke drifting in were addressed promptly, demonstrating a commitment to customer comfort.

In essence, The Counter Coffee and Lounge serves as a versatile urban haven. Whether you're catching up over coffee after work, diving into emails with a latte, or simply enjoying a moment to yourself, this London spot delivers a blend of excellent service, quality beverages, and a cozy yet functional environment.

The barista Oscar is very friendly and makes lovely ice matcha latte. I have ordered several times from The Counter during my stay, served by different baristas though, and had excellent experience here every time. The environment is cosy, perfect for reading/working/casual chatting.

I frequent this location on weekends for the working space with a day pass. There was a problem with cigarette smoke that wafts in from a vent somewhere but I brought it up to staff and it has been solved. I appreciate the quick solution. The barista Oscar is very friendly and makes good coffee (although admittedly I'm not much of a coffee snob). The day pass is 15 pounds but it is a cafe credit, and I spend the whole work day there, so it makes sense for me. There are Zoom booths for calls which demand a 10 pound per hour charge for non-hotel guests which I have never seen used. I don't need to make any calls, but the policy seems a bit silly. I feel the music could be turned down a bit for those there for the working space.

Came here while doing a bit of a tour of local coffee shops to my office at Old Bailey. Honestly one of the best lattes out of the lot, and my colleagues also enjoyed their long black and cappuccino respectively. They also had a loyalty scheme that requires only 6 stamps for a free coffee. Stunning. Not 100% sure but there looked to be a seating area at the back that I believe is a workspace for hotel guests, or those who reserve a spot.
